STYGINIŲ ORKESTRA [string orchestra] is a solo album of traditional music by Edita Gumauskaitė. This carefully selected compilation features authentic dance music that had been performed by the greatest Lithuanian traditional violinists - Bronius Bucevičius, Jurgis Byla, Stanislovas Berenis, Jonas Danilevičius, Petras Nevulis, Juozas Jančas, Valerija Steponavičienė – Grušaitė, Alfonsas Barakauskas many years ago and is still being kept alive by means through
vinyl and wax cylinder records. A single violin is not an orchestra, but the modern technologies make it possible to convey more than a dozen of different tracks. Several melodic parts, bass and rhythm parts – all this and even more is brought to life by that single extension of Edita‘s arms – her violin. When accompanied by the listeners’ clapping and dance shoes stomping, it indeed becomes a real orchestra.
